An Exhilarating Stroll | Wendy & Shawn

He was so sure she would get up and leave right then and there, but instead she started off without him into the night. He decided at that moment that he liked her. Who didn’t like a girl with guts? Wendy turned to look at him, the look on her face reading ‘are you coming or not’? He was definitely coming. He didn’t want to miss out on anything interesting. Anything being a murder or a serial killing. The possibilities were endless and that was what enticed him. Shawn trotted after her, whistling a cheery tune to lighten the gloomy atmosphere, feeling completely at ease.

“Very likely,” he said, dancing in a circle around her. “This kind of stuff usually happens at night and lo and behold, it’s night. Wouldn’t be awesome if we did find a serial killer?” He asked, spinning around so he was walking backwards and facing her. “One; you would be wrong and I would be right. Two; we would be catching a serial killer. Three; we would be catching a serial killer.“

“Well, I guess we’re catching a serial killer then.” Wendy laughed softly and looked over at Shawn with a small grin. She really didn’t feel like giving in to his whole egomaniac act, but there was no point in not playing along. “So, have you ever caught a killer before? Ever shot anyone?” She was laughing louder now. For some reason she just couldn’t picture him catching a murderer or anything remotely close to that. She had grown up around a lot of crimes and all of the cops she had ever met usually had the 80s’ pornstache, donut in hand, and beer belly – Shawn didn’t technically fit into that category. But then again, he was a detective not a cop.

For some reason ever since Wendy had arrived in Eastwick, she felt as if there was something odd about it. Not a murderous or scary type of odd, but rather that all of the people had a loose screw or something. She figured Shawn proved her point by having all of his conspiracies. She wasn’t one for thinking up crazy thoughts, but at times it was fun to just catch along and see where all of these crazy thoughts would take people.

An Exhilarating Stroll | Wendy & Shawn

He raised his hands and took a step back, almost doubling over from laughter. “Relax, it’s only me.” Her expression was priceless. It was moments like these when he wished he had his camera. “Just call me Prince Charming,” Shawn gave her a little bow, straightening up with a grin plastered on his face. “I get that reaction a lot. My good looks tend to do that to people,” he joked with a wink.

Shawn hadn’t been in Eastwick that long having only moved there less than two days ago. With the unpacking process still going on, he didn’t have the time to go out and explore the quaint little town. So he had little to no idea where everything was. The fact that it was almost dark didn’t help, but at least it made things more exciting. Shawn loved excitement, adrenaline, and anything extreme. It was who he was. It also made him known for making bad decisions, impulsive decisions that usually didn’t turn out so well. “No idea. I was thinking we could start wandering in a random direction and hopefully come across something interesting,” he said and started spinning, one arm extended with a finger pointing outwards. “Let’s go….this way!” He stopped spinning, stumbling a little, finger pointing down a dimly lit street. It was as good as any place to start.

Wendy gave Shawn a weird look as she watched him spin and stumble as if he was intoxicated. She could honestly say she had never met someone with his type of personality before. He just seemed so open to whatever. “Okay, down the dimly lit street it is,” Wendy replied with a slight hint of hesitation in her voice. She wasn’t the biggest risk taker, plus dark alley ways always had seemed to scare her. As she began to take her first steps, she looked back at Shawn to see if he was actually going to come with, not just watch her walk into the shadows and then run away.

Soon after turning to face him, she began to remember all of the things that Shawn had said about a serial killer. She sure hoped that she could actually prove him wrong and lower his ego just a tad. Besides, she wasn’t neccesarily up for catching any criminals tonight, although she had a feeling that he felt otherwise. Ever since arriving in Eastwick, she could tell it was a fairly dull town. What crime was he going to find here? None.

When Shawn finally caught up with her, she decided to keep walking into the great unknown. Wendy, being a pretty cautious person, took slow steps and felt as if Shawn could have slightly better judgment when it came to these things, but she soon cleared those thoughts from her mind. Be adventurous, she thought to herself. “How likely do you think it’d be if we actually caught your ‘serial killer’ tonight?” Wendy asked with a slight chuckle to help herself shake off the bad vibes.

An Exhilarating Stroll | Wendy & Shawn

det-shawn-campbell:

Shawn had always liked taking risks, diving head first into danger, which was why he suggested their town tour to be at the dead of night. It was much more fun that way. Why walk when you could run? That was his motto. He fished out his keys and locked the door of his apartment even though one knock could send the whole thing toppling down. Even though his apartment was crap, it was his new home and he was going to have to bare with it until he could afford to move into somewhere stable.

He yanked the key back out of the keyhole and started on his journey to Town Square. One step out the door of the building almost sent him back inside. Man up, he thought to himself, rubbing his hands together in an attempt to keep them warm. He angled his wrist towards the nearest streetlamp and checked the time on his watch. Chances were she was already there. He shouldn’t keep the lady waiting any longer. Shawn quickened his pace to a light jog and soon enough he was walking through Town Square looking for Wendy. He almost thought he was early for once, then he spotted the blond perched on a bench, her back facing him. A sly smile tugged on his lips as he approached her silently. She didn’t seem to acknowledge his presence until he planted both hands on her shoulders.

“Boo!”

Suddenly Wendy felt two strong hands clasp at her shoulders. Jumping up, she shrieked when Shawn yelled ‘boo’. She wasn’t one for that type of scare even if it were hardly anything at all. Turning quickly around, Wendy glared at him but let out a small laugh at the same time. She couldn’t deny that her heart was pounding from the shock of him surprising her like that, but she tried her best to play it cool. “Well, aren’t you charming?” she said sarcastically. “You almost gave me a heart attack!” Sending out a small grin, Wendy pulled her hair to one side and then replaced her hands in her pockets. The sky continued to get darker with each moment as they stood there.

“So, what’s our agenda for tonight?” Wendy questioned him. There wasn’t much to do on a dark Sunday night besides sit in the park or just walk along some trail. But she hadn’t been there long, so she honestly didn’t know what there was to do. And considering what Shawn said about him being fairly new to the area too, she figured that he didn’t really know either. As she waited for a reply, her eyes wandered around the sky. Stars began popping up in every direction and at every moment. Wendy was beginning to forget all of the things she had said about Eastwick, and began thinking of it as a beautiful quiet town. Snapping out of her trance, she listened to Shawn’s answer on what they were going to do.

An Exhilarating Stroll | Wendy & Shawn

Wendy hadn’t known Shawn for long, but she could already tell that he had an odd way to him, which made her slightly surprised when she agreed to meet at the Town’s Square. She wasn’t always the one who agreed to do things with people she hardly knew – it was a rule she had made for herself because of her habits of traveling so often and never spending enough time in one place to fully get to know a person. But Shawn’s odd ways attracted her and made her feel as if she should actually get to know someone for once. Considering that Wendy had just arrived in Eastwick, she had been staying in a motel until she got herself a decent home. Walking out of her motel room which was continentally located near the downtown of the small town, she began trotting down the sidewalk. Shoving her small hands deep into her coats pockets, she shuddered in the early spring weather.

Only a few minutes later did Wendy find herself walking to the middle of Town Square. She eagerly looked around in hopes of spotting the brunette man. Giving up, she slowly walked over to a nearby bench and sat down. The air made her shiver as it surrounded her face and body. She wasn’t one for the cold, but she did agree with Shawn – It was a lot more fun to wander around a place in the dark rather than the light.
